Be a Mentor to the Next Generation of Researchers:
As our profession continues to grow, so does APRA Canada's Mentorship Program. We continue to receive an increased number of requests for mentors especially in the Western Regions.
As my tenure ends as the Chair/Director for Regional Representatives for the APRA-Canada Board, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who have made my job pretty easy these past couple of years! It has been a delight to get to know many of you either personally and/or virtually.
Welcome to the latest edition of The Scoop and, our wonderful new website. This new site is the product of months of planning and work coordinated by Alanna Scott our Director of Communications.
First of all, a huge thank you to all of you who completed the location survey and also to those who have been in touch to offer your time and talents in planning the next APRA-Canada conference.
APRA Canada's 2009 Annual General Meeting was held on July 28 in Boston. In keeping with tradition, the AGM was held during APRA's International Conference. The meeting was chaired by board member Alanna Scott.

A colleague was absolutely right when she told me that the professional development highlight for a Prospect Researcher was to attend an APRA International Conference.

My first session was the APRA Canada AGM, where the upcoming initiatives of the chapter were discussed, including the next Canadian conference. As well as taking care of business, we also got lovely Maple Leaf Stickers to identify ourselves as Canadians.
My name is Shelly and I'm the Research Officer at Carleton University. I am also the regional rep for APRA Canada in Ottawa. I graduated with a B.A. in Women's Studies and Classical Studies from Trent University in 1999 then went on to an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. I was called to the bar in 2004, but I found out quickly that I didn't want to be a lawyer. I had always been an active volunteer and I decided to have a career in the non-profit sector.
