POSITION SUMMARY

With the mission ‘We inspire inspirational gifts’, Mackenzie Health Foundation has raised more than $142 million for capital projects, medical equipment, technology and educational opportunities for Mackenzie Health. The Foundation is spearheading a $250-million fundraising campaign – the largest to date for a community hospital in Canada – to advance patient care at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and raise the community portion of funding to build and equip the future state-of-the-art Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. As we work toward achieving our exciting mandate, we are seeking to grow our inspired team with a Prospect Researcher.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Campaign Operations, the Prospect Researcher works as an integrated part of the Campaign Operations Team, supporting Relationship Managers, responsible for conducting online and print research to identify and qualify prospects (individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies) with the capacity to make major gifts and lead sponsorships to Mackenzie Health Foundation fundraising initiatives, signature events and campaigns. The Prospect Researcher will identify and rank new prospects using a broad range of internal and external data sources, prepare documentation, provide detailed briefings and write and develop detailed profiles and research reports and briefings in a responsible and proactive manner.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

•Conducts research on high net worth donor prospects, industries, groups and sectors, gathering information regarding philanthropic interests, giving capacity, etc. 
•Prepares biological profiles and research reports for fundraising staff and volunteers.
•Qualifies potential major gift prospects using industry best practices.
•Monitors and communicates news events and issues that impact on the Foundation’s fundraising strategies and philanthropic environment.
•Assists in the prospect clearance process to support the Major Gifts Team.
•Responsible for coding relevant information into Raiser’s Edge database including entering contact and meeting notes for major gift prospects and leads. 
•Prepares reports on the philanthropic community, non-profit trends and industries to support on-going activities and strategic planning of Mackenzie Health Foundation.
•Creates, supports and maintains research, pipeline tools and templates as required.
•Reviews, maintains and makes recommendations on prospect research tools, subscriptions and services. 
•Maintains electronic and paper filing systems.
•Handles information confidentially, accurately and ethically. 
•Updates reports and tracking sheets as required.
•Adheres to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Health and Safety Policies.
•Positively represents Mackenzie Health Foundation in the community.
•Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

•University degree; preference given to library and information science professionals. Fundraising education will be considered. 
•Membership in the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement would be beneficial.
•Minimum of 2+ years experience in a fundraising research environment.
•Familiarity with the health care sector preferred but related experience will be considered. 
•Proficient use of a fundraising CRM. Experience with Raiser’s Edge an asset.
•Understanding of prospect research techniques and demonstrated experience in using a broad spectrum of sources to identify and evaluate prospects to support strategy formulation and decision making at all stages of the pipeline.
•Exceptional initiative, strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills required to surface, analyze, synthesize and interpret data to make connections for actionable insight. 
•Demonstrated independence and resourcefulness, while working within the framework of an integrated development program and team-oriented environment.
•Professional maturity and ability to manage confidential information and exercise good judgement.
•Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills.
•Strong computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office and its applications, internet and research sources and databases.
•Proficiency with fundraising research resources (print and electronic).
•Strong attention to detail, understanding the impact of errors on staff, volunteers and donors.
•Foundation staff are required to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
•Proven attendance record.
•Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
•Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
