My main goal of attending a conference is always to learn new concepts that I can put into practice. However, I never considered attending the APRA International conference before because the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s fundraising team and systems were not well-established enough. Instead, I continued to attend the great APRA Canada conferences which offered the right mix of intermediate and advanced topics.

Communications Report

A big thank you goes out to Melody Song, who did a great job managing the communications portfolio during her tenure as Director of Communications!

Website/emailing:

Melody worked on importing the membership list to Mailchimp, this was to ensure that members receive the correct communications. The membership list is uploaded to the APRA’s Mailchimp account monthly. Through Mailchimp, consent requests and tracking were implemented.

Secretary Report

Board elections were held in November 2015. We received 9 applications for the board from members across Canada. Three new members were elected, including myself, Selene Hur and Izabela Piasecka-Latour.

Three returning board members were re-elected, including Melissa Young, Whymark Austen and Shannon Doherty.

In accordance with our by-laws as a BC-registered association, we have one elected board member from BC (Sarah Anderson, Research Analyst at UBC).

We had our first board meeting with our new members in January.

In 2015, APRA Canada held four professional development events:

On February 11, 2015, APRA Canada hosted a TwitterTalk as part of APRA International’s second annual Education Week.  The session covered topics as diverse as effective coding, best sources, and some lively discussion about ethical ways of using social media.  This event was moderated by Sarah McCarthy from the Ivey School of Business. 

Regional Reps Report

2015 Summary:

In 2015, seven people volunteered to become Regional Reps, while three people ended their tenure as Regional Reps. As of February 3, 2016, APRA Canada has 25 Regional Representatives.

In May, I sent out an email to the Regional Reps to get any questions, concerns, suggestions and/or issues regarding the role of Regional Representative and holding activities in their respective regions. Some of the issues that came up included:
