Annual General Meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting on April 11th. If you were unable to join us, I'd encourage you to review the meeting minutes that are available on our website (Chapter Information > Meeting Minutes). The minutes provide a good summary of the chapter's financial status and activities in 2017, which resulted from the efforts of our dedicated volunteers!

Celebrating our Best

Apra Canada Excellence in Prospect Research Award

The Apra Canada 2018 Conference is approaching fast and as your conference co-chair, I am delighted to see the program coming together. Our keynote speakers are shining examples of leadership and forward thinking; the sessions will stimulate discussion and provide our delegates with practical tips and ideas to implement in their organizations; the breakout sessions foster collaboration and learning from peers and colleagues.

At our last conference we celebrated the 15th anniversary of Apra Canada as well as the launch of Prospect Research in Canada: An Essential Guide for Researchers and Fundraisers, the only comprehensive guide to prospect research in Canada today. These milestones are important markers of our chapter’s success and are possible because of dedicated volunteers committed to our profession.

With this in mind, it seems fitting that as we forge ahead we take the time to celebrate the leaders in our profession; the researchers who dedicate themselves not only to their organizations, but to the sector more broadly.

I am thrilled to announce that our 2018 conference will introduce the Apra Canada Excellence in Prospect Research Award. The award will honor an individual who has enhanced the prospect research profession beyond their day to day work.

Nomination forms are now available on the Apra Canada website. A selection committee – Katherine Scott, Crystal Leochko Johnston, and John Hermans – will review nominations and announce the winner at the conference. For those who are not able to attend the conference, the winner will be featured in The Scoop, where you can learn about their impact on prospect research in Canada.

I encourage you to nominate your most-admired colleagues or yourself. We all benefit from celebrating those who are helping our sector grow!

About the Radikha Jaggernauth Conference Scholarships

In August of 2012, the Canadian prospect research community lost a valued member. Radhika Jaggernauth passed away after being diagnosed with cancer. Radhika was an Apra Canada Director responsible for the Regional Representatives and had given a great deal of time volunteering with Apra over the years. Radhika contributed directly to the success of a number of organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, UNICEF and the United Way of Greater Toronto. A kind hearted, funny, inquisitive, and focused individual - committed to Apra Canada and the research profession. In Radhika's honour, the 2011-2012 Board of Directors renamed the Apra Canada Scholarships the Radhika Jaggernauth Memorial Scholarships.

Partying in Calgary

Apra Canada Roundtable Discussion

What do Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary, Calgary Zoo, Mount Royal University, Mustard Seed, Red Cross, SAIT Polytechnic, and the University of Calgary have in common? If you answered great researchers, you are correct!

For the first time this year, Apra members and friends in Calgary decided to party with style. We ordered pizza and fancy salads and gathered together at the University of Calgary to listen to the Apra Canada Roundtable on Friday, April 27, 2018. The Roundtable discussion provided great insights, so kudos to the organizers and participants. After the roundtable, we had an opportunity to socialize, share key takeaways, ask questions from our peers and learn from eachother. We even had enough leftovers to take home - the perfect kind of party!

Old News is Still Good News!

Apra Canada Toronto Chapter Holiday Social 2017

The Apra-C Toronto Holiday Social was held on December 7, 2017 at the Elephant and Castle. We had approximately 25 people in attendance, including Apra-C board members Selene Hur, John Hermans, Katherine Scott, and Alexandra Basen, as well as Apra International president Liz Rejman.

The sponsors for the evening were Tracey Church and Associates, CharityCan, iWave, and DigIn Research, who were represented by Tracey Church, Trent Beattie (iWave), and Terry Burton (DigIn). Matthew Charters of CharityCan was sadly unable to attend.

We held a book swap, where attendees brought in a wrapped previously-loved book to trade, and a good time was had by all!
