Leveraging Events for Prospecting

Going from a large non-profit organization to a smaller one is a complete culture shift for a prospect researcher.  I had recently left my position at a secondary education institution to work at the Calgary Zoo.  It was a switch from a mature development team with three prospect researchers to a growing seven-member team and one-person research shop. 

2011 Membership Survey Results

Members of APRA Canada were invited to participate in APRA Canada’s fourth membership survey from November 30 through December 16th 2011. 78 members or 39% of invited members responded. Thank you very much to everyone who completed the survey. The information tabulated from your responses will help the board of APRA Canada as we plan new activities for our members and for prospect researchers across Canada.

It is April, and for everyone across Canada that means tax filing time.  And it is the same for APRA Canada.   I’m currently preparing our tax return and should have that finished by the end of the week.  It’s amazing how much we collect, and spend, on taxes every year!

Professional Development Report

On March 14, APRA Canada hosted its very first twitter talk on social media and prospect research.  It was a lively discussion with 425 tweets generated 170,774 impressions, reaching an audience of 8,090 followers.  Researchers from across Canada and the US joined in sharing information, asking questions and generating a lively dialogue 140 characters at a time. For those who are still new to social media there will be a workshop presentation at the conference covering Twitter and LinkedIn.

APRA Canada’s Membership continues to grow. Since January 2012, we have welcomed 14 new and/or renewing registrants to our organization. Our membership count is now over 200. We continue to receive questions from about membership enrollment from colleagues across Canada.
