Conference Sneak Peek

By Preeti Gill and Selene Hur, Co-Chairs

We’re well underway with planning for an exciting conference filled with learning sessions, panel discussions, workshops and keynote addresses. Yes, this is Leading Discovery (October 10-12) – the only Canadian conference dedicated to the study and advancement of prospect research. Thanks to everyone who submitted fascinating presentation proposals, we are pleased to present the full conference schedule featuring veteran and cutting-edge researchers from across Canada. Presenters will address diverse topics like prospect management, pipeline renewal, advancement leadership, rating capacity, relationship mapping and prospect identification. We are also delighted to welcome our American friends from APRA International, NEDRA and APRA-UNY who are slated to present at Leading Discovery.

This year’s general session address will be delivered by Michael Quevli, a consultant with Target Analytics, a Blackbaud Company and also current President of APRA International. Join Michael in building a database screening project live from the ground up! This interactive session will cover all stages of going through a data mining and analytics project and will feature design essentials everyone can use. Come prepared to ask questions and participate! The presentation will be built from interactive dialogue, and the final PowerPoint presentation will be distributed to attendees following the conference.

Michael began his career in prospect research in 1996 at AIDS Project Los Angeles. He was at the Keck School of Medicine of USC for seven years and was responsible for overseeing the Development Research team before joining Kintera P!N (now Target Analytics, a Blackbaud Company) in 2005. He has been a frequent speaker for APRA and its chapters, and was an instructor at the College of Extended Learning at Cal State Northridge in prospect research and prospect management. Michael is a recipient of the 2004 CARA Service Award and the 2007 Stephens College Alumnae Service Award.

And don’t miss our pan-Canadian Prospect Research Experts Panel for a lively discussion on hot topics in our industry, including innovative tools and practices, career development and the future of our profession. Cool Data blogger Kevin MacDonell will join Julie Linkletter from UBC in Vancouver, Jennifer Zhang from Sunnybrook Foundation in Toronto, Melissa Young from QEII Health Sciences Centre Foundation in Halifax, and Stephanie Hilson from McMaster University in Hamilton to offer insightful commentary and answer your pressing questions.
