Issue 41 July 2013

In this issue of The SCOOP, we focus on Campaigns – the lifeblood of many institutions; the force driving fundraiser goals and targets; and an opportune time for prospect researchers to shine and make a significant contribution.  A campaign unites the institution and a successful campaign not only realizes or exceeds its target, but transforms it from within, infusing the organization with new vigor, mindsets, processes and procedures.

Tracey Church identifies the important roles prospect researchers play in campaign, from volunteer identification to “scrubbing the pipeline”, a point Kat Carson delves deeper into as she shares the  myriad of new prospect management initiatives and processes unfolding as the University of Calgary preps to hit the campaign trail.

Having lived and breathed University of British Columbia’s $1.5 billion campaign, Preeti Gill shares her insights on prospecting, dispelling some “myths” and highlighting how knowledge of your fundraisers enhances prospecting efforts.

Providing a refreshing and sometimes alternate perspective on campaigns is Jon Duschinsky – author, trainer, founder of bethechange and The Conversation Farm and keynote presenter at the 2013 APRA International Conference in Baltimore, MD - in a one-on-one interview with Liz Rejman.

We are also delighted to introduce the newly-minted 2014 APRA Canada Conference Organizing Committee co-chaired by Liz Rejman and Amy McKinnon.  As the Committee begins its work, there will be additional opportunities to volunteer and provide feedback.

In fact, we loved to hear your ideas for both conference and webinar speakers and topics – but only if you renew your membership which expires annually on June 30!

And if all goes as planned, this will be the final edition of The SCOOP.  We’re hoping to retire the name and come back with a newly-named newsletter – one that better reflects its content and our community and values.  Again, please send us your ideas!

On behalf of the Editorial Team and APRA Canada Board of Directors, have a safe and enjoyable summer!
