Issue 41 July 2013

Tracey Church, President

Welcome everyone to the summer edition of The Scoop. I wish everyone a happy and healthy – and sunny – summer!

Some updates & reminders for you:

  • Director, External: Fortunately, and unfortunately, I am happy and sad to report that Liz Rejman has obtained a seat on the APRA International Board and begins her term in August. This is excellent news for Canadian researchers as we will have representation on their board as it has been a long time since this has happened – so, congratulations Liz! The sad part is that Liz will have to give up her seat on our board and the External Portfolio, thus leaving it open until the fall elections. Happily, Liz has agreed to retain her position as Co-Chair of the 2014 APRA Canada Conference, a large part of the External role and we thank her once again for this and look forward to her exciting leadership for the 2014 conference.
  • Virtual Membership Meeting: On July 18th from 1-2 p.m. (2-3 EST), the APRA Senior Volunteers will present a webcast on the achievements of the organization, financial information from the past year, and address new initiatives to come. This is the best opportunity to learn about the future of the organization and how to maximize your APRA-Intl membership. All chapter members are encouraged to attend and can register on the APRA International website (www.aprahome.org).
  • Prospect Research for Fundraisers: I just wanted everyone to note that Jennifer Filla and Helen Brown’s book Prospect Research for Fundraisers: The Essential Handbook has been published through AFP and is now available. It’s important to realize that the publication of this book by AFP shows how our field is growing and very much an essential piece of the fundraising puzzle.
  • LRFRE (London & Region Fundraising Executives) Conference: I am happy to report that several of our APRA Canada members presented a well-attended research panel called “How to Create a Healthy Prospect Pipeline for Your Organization” on May 30th in London, Ontario. Panel participants included myself, Sarah McCarthy (Ivey School of Business), Lesley Harris (St. Joseph’s Healthcare), Jennepher Cahill (Children’s Hospital Foundation), and Izabela Piasecka-Latour (CNIB).
