Issue 42 October 2013

It’s back to school time and, of course, the busiest fundraising quarter of the year! This President’s report is going to be short and sweet with two main points on my mind: the great Canadian representatives we had at the APRA International Conference this year; and, the upcoming APRA – Canada Board Elections!

APRA International Conference, Baltimore, MD (August 7 – 10, 2013)

Thank you once again to the APRA – Canada members for providing highly – rated and extremely well – attended sessions at the international conference this year. From data visualization, strategic planning, search engines and research techniques, to creating success with your values – we covered it all. From what I can see, our APRA – Canada members are now followed heavily on LinkedIn and Twitter by our American and European colleagues.

Thank you again to Melody Song who organized a fun night out “crackin’ and eatin’ crabs.” We were up to our elbows in it and had a lot of fun with over 20 attendees. Thanks too to the folks from iWave who picked up most of the tab and to APRA – Canada for supplementing attendees’ dinners. What camaraderie at a reasonable price.

I can’t wait to see what we follow this up with next year in Las Vegas!

APRA Canada Board Elections (November 2013)

Thank you so much to our Board Members who are wrapping up their terms – we couldn’t have provided such worthwhile programming, mentorship and guidance without you!

What will we do without Mark Neilans (our Treasurer for 6 years – 3 terms) and Julie Linkletter (Communications for 4 years – 2 terms.) What great dedication! And, despite the fact they are both ending their board tenure, they have both volunteered for next year’s conference committee. Did I mention these guys are dedicated!

Other directors stepping down because of term(s) completion and/or other commitments are Elizabeth Rejman (External), Erin Bartok (Mentorship), and Shelly Steenhorst – Baker (Professional Development.) Thank you so much making APRA Canada a wonderful, worthwhile association. I feel privileged to have had a chance to work with you.

So, as the world turns, it means we do have some openings for this November. When the call for board nominations comes out, please put forth your name and think about what you would like to do for your professional association. This next year promises to be a lot of fun working up to the 2014 conference in Toronto. Board terms are two years. Please feel free to contact any of the current board members if you have any questions about serving on the board. I look forward to serving with you in the next year.

All the best.

Tracey Church
