Issue 45 February 2015

By: Tracey Church, President, APRA Canada

Hello, and welcome to another great year ahead with APRA Canada. Since this is the first Scoop since our fall board elections, please let me introduce our 2014-2015 APRA Canada Board. Thank you to everyone who forwarded nominations and voted.

  • President, Tracey Church
  • Treasurer / Vice President, Gretchen Wintermeyer
  • Secretary, Caitlin McLellan
  • Director, Communications, Melody Song
  • Director, Membership, Melissa Young
  • Director, Mentorship, Shannon Doherty
  • Director, Professional Development, Whymark Austen
  • Director, Regional Reps, Steven Sorensen
  • Director, External Relations & Co-Chair Conference, John Hermans

And thank you once again for our retiring board member, Marcia Steeves for her six wonderful years of service.

The new Board is looking forward to working with the new APRA Canada Strategic Plan for 2015-2018 (recently approved at the APRA Canada Annual General meeting). Areas of concentration brought forward by the Plan for the Board include those concerned with:

  • Membership
  • Education, Resources, & Professional Development
  • Advocacy
  • Leadership & Succession Planning

The Strategic Plan can be found on the Members Only area of the APRA Canada website.

Thank you again to our Strategic Plan Task Force for making this happen, in less than a year turn-around. Incredible!

It should be noted that various members of APRA Canada are working hard to continue to get higher education institutions to include Prospect Research in their curriculums. Recent developments include Tracey Church (KCI, & APRA President) and Izabela Piasecka-Latour (The Arthritis Society) currently co-instructing the Winter Term 2015 course “Prospect Research in Fundraising” in the MLIS program in the Faculty of Information Studies at Western University (Jan-April 2015).

Discussions are ongoing with the iSchool at University of Toronto to include Prospect Research in their curriculum.

Please forward any other higher education Prospect Research programs of which you are aware to my new email: traceychurch024@gmail.com

APRA International’s Education Week “Chapters Share Knowledge” is February 9-20, 2015. Over 10 Chapters are presenting including APRA Canada’s Twitter Talk hosted by Sarah McCarthy (Ivey Business School, Western University) on February 11th @ 1:00 p.m. EST. Education Week is free to all members.
