Welcome to the new board members and thank you again to those board members who ended their terms in 2015: Caitlin McLellan, Melody Song, and Julie Linkletter.

We have had a very exciting and active 2015 with a new strategic plan, the creation of a new book, participation in APRA International’s Education Week, the Chapter Leaders’ Summit, and the International Conference in New Orleans. We are looking forward to a great 2016 with presenters again at the International Conference in Nashville and of course our own APRA-Canada Conference in Toronto in October. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

APRA-Canada book:

Prospect Research in Canada: The Essential Guide for Researchers and Fundraisers (working title)

As many of you already know, this past year the APRA-Canada board approved the writing and publication of a new book through Hilborn Press on prospect research covering the Canadian research development landscape. This is the first book of its kind in Canada and we have over 30 contributors who are professionals in our field. The book is scheduled to be launched at the October APRA-Canada Conference and we are very excited about this project. Please allow me to introduce the hard-working editorial committee for the book:

  • Tracey Church, Co-Chair
  • Liz Rejman, Co-Chair
  • Caitlin McLellan
  • Donna Moriarty
  • Irene McIntosh
  • Amy McKinnon
  • Viktorie (Viki) van Deursen
  • Carrie Sandstrom
  • Mark Bowman
  • Shelly Steenhorst-Baker
  • Izabela Piasecka-Latour

Thank you so much to the editorial committee and the contributors for bringing together this much-needed resource for Canadian fund development.

Prospect Research Education

We are happy to report that there are now three prospect research courses being taught in Canada at the post-secondary Masters level.

·         The MLIS program at Western University continues to offer its course “Prospect Research in Fundraising” taught each Winter Term (January - April). The course is taught by co-instructors Tracey Church and Izabela Piasecka-Latour, both APRA-Canada board members.

·         After a great many years of communication, the University of Toronto’s iSchool has finally added a Prospect Research course to its curriculum, also taught in the Winter Term by instructor Jennifer Zhang.

·         Jessica Starr (UBC) taught a two-day workshop on Prospect Research at SLAIS (School of Library, Archival and Information Studies) at UBC in the Winter Term 2015.

Thank you to everyone who worked on making these important courses available to our next generation of researchers!

Please take note of these important dates for 2016:

·         APRA International Education Week (Chapters Share the Knowledge): February 8th – 19th

·         APRA’s 29th International Conference, Nashville: July 27th – 30th

·         APRA-Canada Conference, Toronto: October 12th – 14th

Look for upcoming scholarship opportunities for both conferences in 2016!
