Issue 46 February 2016

By Selene Hur, Director, Mentorship

There are currently 19 mentor-mentoree matches in the program. The portfolio just transitioned to me in December so I’ll be getting in touch with each participant to introduce myself and to check on the status of the mentorship match (some may be coming up to the end of their 1-year commitment). At the moment, there are 2 mentorees that need to be matched and 1 person who has expressed interest in becoming a mentor.

The program participants include prospect researchers from across Canada: Calgary, Regina, Sudbury, London, Kitchener, Waterloo, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax. In addition, the participants represent a variety of nonprofit sectors: healthcare, postsecondary education, independent schools, arts, social services.

For 2016, in addition to matching participants, I will continue to promote the mentorship program via social media, APRA Canada’s The Scoop, and to explore possibilities to highlight the program at the APRA-Canada 2016 conference.  An additional goal I plan to pursue in 2016 is to develop a basic mentorship tool kit. Some comments from the February 2015 participant survey indicated an interest in receiving more guidance. I would like to include helpful topics in the toolkit such as: sample meeting schedules, ideas for mentoring conversation techniques, and tips on relationship building.
