Issue 46 February 2016

By Sarah Anderson, Secretary

Board elections were held in November 2015. We received 9 applications for the board from members across Canada. Three new members were elected, including myself, Selene Hur and Izabela Piasecka-Latour.

Three returning board members were re-elected, including Melissa Young, Whymark Austen and Shannon Doherty.

In accordance with our by-laws as a BC-registered association, we have one elected board member from BC (Sarah Anderson, Research Analyst at UBC).

We had our first board meeting with our new members in January.

As I take over the role of Secretary, I want to thank Caitlin McLellan for all of her excellent work as Secretary over the last 2 years.

Job Descriptions

In 2014 and 2015, Caitlin McLellan worked with current board members to create and compile job descriptions for each role for future board members and applicants to use as reference.

Scholarships

In 2015, we were able to offer The APRA Canada Radhika Jaggernauth Memorial Scholarship to two applicants to attend the APRA International Conference in New Orleans. The scholarships were valued at $1500 (CDN) each in order to cover the cost of conference fees, travel and accommodations.

A selection committee was formed in May 2015 by Kat Carson (previous award winner, University of Calgary) and Caitlin McLellan.

We had 6 strong applicants from across Canada, representing a diverse range of

experience levels and industry (health, the arts and education). The successful applicants were Selene Hur (Manager, Prospect Research at YMCA of Greater Toronto) and Laura Avery (Q.EII Health Sciences Foundation in Halfax).

This year we will be offering scholarships for the APRA International Conference  and the APRA Canada Conference. fu
